Published Dec 07, 2020After details first started emerging last week about Death to 2020 — the new mockumentary by Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker — Netflix has stepped up to shed a bunch more light on the project, as well as give us a new trailer.
Today, Netflix confirmed that not only will Death to 2020 feature Hugh Grant, but it will also include Samuel L. Jackson, Lisa Kudrow, Joe Keery, Leslie Jones, Kumail Nanjiani, Tracey Ullman, Samson Kayo and Cristin Milioti. The year-end special will also feature Brooker regular Diane Morgan (a.k.a Philomena Cunk).
"2020: A year so [insert adjective of choice here], even the creators of Black Mirror couldn't make it up… but that doesn't mean they don't have a little something to add," Netflix stated today. "Death to 2020 is a comedy event that tells the story of the dreadful year that was — and perhaps still is? This landmark documentary-style special weaves together some of the world's most (fictitious) renowned voices with real-life archival footage spanning the past 12 months."
After Brooker shared a brief teaser last week, Netflix has now given us a slightly longer one, which you can watch below.
So far, though, Netflix has not announced a firm premiere date for Death to 2020, but the streamer does say it's "coming soon."
Previously, Hugh Grant said, "Charlie Brooker has written a mockumentary about 2020. It's for Netflix." He also stated he would be playing "a historian who's being interviewed about the year. I'm pretty repellent, actually! And you'll like my wig."
