Published Jan 16, 2020Here's some throat-rippingly good news — the MacGruber sequel is officially happening. It won't be a movie, as was previously planned, but instead a new television series on NBC's upcoming Peacock streaming network.
Details are somewhat scarce, but NBC confirmed that the show will happen. Star and co-creator Will Forte has suggested that all of the film's stars will most likely be back. The movie, which came out in 2010, starred Forte alongside Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillipe and Val Kilmer.
Jorma Taccone will write and direct the series, which will be produced by SNL daddy Lorne Michaels. As for when it will arrive, details are yet to be confirmed.
The official synopsis for the MacGruber TV series reads as follows:
After rotting in prison for over a decade, America's ultimate hero and uber patriot MacGruber is finally released. His mission: to take down a mysterious villain from his past — Brigadier Commander Enos Queeth. With the entire world in the crosshairs, MacGruber (Will Forte), Vicki, and Piper must race against time to defeat the forces of evil. Only to find that evil… may be lurking within.
Other pickups for Peacock include new series from Amy Poehler and Mindy Kaling.
